Turkey Burger with Baked Beans and Potato Salad

For an increasingly health conscious public, turkey burgers can be a great alternative to traditional beef burgers. In addition to their lean fat content, turkey burgers offer a number of health benefits. They are an excellent source of protein and contain high amounts of vitamin B6, Niacin, and Selenium.

Citrus

Lemon and Lime

While there is a consensus that Turkey Burgers are a healthy substitute to beef, what about the taste? Due to their low fat content, Turkey Burgers can easily be overcooked and they can taste dry and bland compared to beef burgers. There are a number of ways to prevent overcooking and add flavor to those Turkey Burgers. Just in time for the summer cookout season, we’ve compiled a few tips and recipes to spice up those Turkey Burgers.

Add Fresh Lime or Lemon Juice:

Adding lime or lemon juice to turkey burgers is a great way to prevent overcooked and dried out meat while also adding a fresh and unique flavor. Adding 1 tbsp with salt and pepper to 1 lb. of ground turkey breast will help keep the meat moist. Additionally the juice will help with patty consistency, preventing crumbling and falling apart.

Use Both Dark and White Meat:

When mixing the turkey and any other ingredients together, it is best to use both white and dark meat in the mixture. The dark meat will help retain additional moisture in the patties while also adding more flavors to your burgers.

Use Breast Meat

For the healthiest burgers, breast meat has a much lower fat content than any other types of ground turkey. Some types are fat free while others are as much as 95% fat free. For added flavor and moisture, try adding dark meat in with breast meat.
